God, make me a wife day 1: Household chores

Hi ladies,

I am so thrilled that you are willing to take on this dare! If you haven't read the intro please have a quick look! This is a complete new adventure for me as well so I am absolutely excited for what God is going to do in this coming 14 days.

First of all I would love for you to read about the 'Proverbs 31 woman'. She is so active, skilled and organized, that must have to do with the time she sets aside to praise God. Because otherwise you go completely insane ;-) I know I would!

Today I want to focus on her being organized and busy in the house. She makes a great example, let's see what we can implement in our daily life.

10Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. 11Her husband can trust her,and she will greatly enrich his life. 12She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
13She finds wool and flax and busily spins it. 14She is like a merchant’s ship, bringing her food from afar.
15She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.
16She goes to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. 18She makes sure her dealings are profitable;  her lamp burns late into the night.

 19Her hands are busy spinning thread, her fingers twisting fiber. 20She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy. 21She has no fear of winter for her household, for everyone has warm clothes. 22She makes her own bedspreads. She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns. 23Her husband is well known at the city gates, where he sits with the other civic leaders. 24She makes belted linen garments and sashes to sell to the merchants. 25She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. 26When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. 

27She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. 28Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: 29“There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” 30Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the lord will be greatly praised. 31Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

Planning is the key
If you want to have your life organized then you need to have a planning. Especially when it comes to household chores, when you do not like to clean or tidy up etc. it can be so easy to 'forget' that you have to clean. Making a planning will give you a better overview of everything that needs to be done. It will help you to distribute the chores evenly so you can save yourself from cleaning marathons and you can always open up your house to (unexpected) guests.

How to make a household cleaning schedule?
I like to write things down so I can see them, it also helps me to see what needs to be done tomorrow, the day after etc. having a good overview makes me feel like I can handle this!
I use a weekly white board (bought it at MediaMarkt, but you can find them at Hema, Action and online stores, sorry readers outside Holland I bet someone knows where to purchase them from - feel free to leave a comment!) But you can use your phone calendar or some paper and a pen as well. Find something that works for you.

Step 1: make a list of everything that needs to be done, especially when your house is a mess it might be helpful to make this list so you can spread the tasks out through the coming weeks. Oh and make yourself a cup of tea/coffee, who said you shouldn't enjoy planning?! It is also important that you know what your priorities are, when you have small kids you probably want the floor to be mopped more often than when you are single and working 5 days a week. But if you are single it might be harder for you to keep the kitchen clean because it is so easy to leave your plate on the counter as it will only disturb you. Know what you want to achieve in your household.
Step 2: decide if you want to make a week planner or a day planner. If you make a day planner be careful for the pitfall of wanting to much done in 1 day. You are a superb woman but you are not superwoman!
Step 3: why not taking a cookie with your hot drink? Just made myself a caramel latte, because who said that I can not enjoy writing, right?! Okay, focus, step 3 is writing down your activities like work, babysitting, getting the kids from school, church meetings etc. All the activities that are already planned for the week.
Step 4: Now that you have an overview of your week you will see that some days are completely filled with activities. Don't give yourself a hard time by planning even more cleaning tasks on this day. Maybe only doing the dishes and a ten minute tidy up after dinner. Now write down the tasks that you want to do everyday like: make your bed, do the dishes, 10 minute tidy up.
Stap 5: Spread the bigger tasks like vacuuming, mopping etc. evenly throughout the week. Once again do not overdo it you are not superwoman! The reason of having a schedule is not make you fail but to make you a winner, so make sure that your planning is doable. You really don't have to wash the windows every Wednesday, but you might want to mop the floor every week. That mirror in the hallway is less important than your kitchen.
Do you have kids? Make this planning together with them, sit around the table with a drink and a snack and ask them how they think about household chores and ways of keeping the house clean. Let them find chores that they can do their self like cleaning their bedroom and make it a group activity. 

Neat house is a neat mind
Don't you just love that feeling when you house is cleaned from top to bottom. It smells so fresh and clean, what if you have this feeling everyday? When you are used of having a planning it is so much easier to keep your house clean and clutter free. Having a clean and neat house will help you to get a neat mind. You will find more peace and the atmosphere in your house will definitely change, which will give you the ability to relax. Having everything in order, will make a difference in your mind.

Make your house your (future) husband wants to come home to.
